Full Moon Snapper

Report Date: August 20, 2007

For the past few days the snapper bite has been off the chain I'm not shure why but they are bitting. All the little rock ledges and deep spots that I've hit have produced good fish. my coustomers have been doing well useing live shripm on a small knocker rig."but you have to hide the hook. I use a long shank #1 eagle claw and tread the hook into the shrimp, From the tail to the head just so the hook comes out under the shrimps legs. The fish won't see it and it will help keep you from getting snagged on the rocks. The red fish have realy turned on in the last two weeks I've caught good numbers of them on every trip. From small rats "under 18 inches" to big boys that way over exceed the 27 inch end of the slot.they are every where in shallow water now but, thats all going to change in the next few days with the full moon comming up.This is the time of yesr they start to migrate off shore to spawn. They will collect around jetties and rock piles. But don't take these fish lightly. There will be some big bulls in the mix trying to get a peice of the action. The best way to get your chance at one of these fire trucks is to use large piceces of cut bait with enough weight to keep it from moving around in the strong full moon currents.Remember that the red fish have a slot limit of 18--27 inches so make sure you double check you measurments be for you put them on the ice.
