Crysatl River fishing report "LIFE IS GOOD"

Report Date: July 16, 2007

Life is good in the Crystal River area. The trout fishing is is still good but you have to go a long way out. These fish are doing their best to stay cool. The average water temp is around 80* so you realy need to find some deep pockets or go for the deep water.I mean 15 to 20 feet. Or if you know of an shallow fresh water spring that is some where in the flats you should go to it and give it your best.Try using live shrimp or soft plastics on a small jig head.Just heavy enough to get it down.and work it slow!!!!!.The red fish are all over its not hard to catch more than twenty a day.But you have to be patiant and chose your spots well and you will do fine.Look for an area that has a good drop off with a close by shalow flat. You should be able to find fish moving back and forth from the flat to the deep spot with the change of the tide. Use live select shrimp with a small eagle claw circle hook and just a little split shot to help you cast. This will get you fish in the 18 to 25 inch range. If you just want to test your angling skills stop some where that you can catch some bait.I mean lady fish.Cut them into chunks big enough that those slot sized fish wont want to bother with them. Put it on the edge of just about any thing from grass to sand or mud to rock and those big over sized monsters will find it and after that hold on. if you dont beleave me just ask Kim Law of Bellview, and Tasha Applebee of Lady Lake. These girls put some big fish on the boat this past friday from 29 to 32 inchs and up to 15 lbs. Although Kim had caught big reds in the past it was tasha's first. I think its safe to say that she is now hooked. She released two fish that where both over ten lbs.it won't be long before she comes back for another,
