Bad day turned good with Common Hooker Adventures
Report Date: November 26, 2007
Every year around the end of November the big trout start to show up around the spoil banks and bars just outside of crystal river. You can count on the trout this time of year. They are chasing the bait that is coming in from off shore to seek warmer water to spend the winter.
On warmer days you can find them up high in the water column looking for food. On colder days they will have fallen back into the deeper holes looking for water that the cold air has not affected yet. If this is the case they will probably be very lethargic and hard to get a strike out of. So remember to let them come to your bait work it slow they are not going to chase it. Think about it like this. If its forty degrees out side and you want the news paper your not going to be all that excited about going out of your way to get out side and get it but, If someone would bring it to you I’ll bet you would read it.
This past Monday was one of the warmer days in November .Dr. Sam and I started out just to go fishing and have a good day on the water the first spot that we stopped in was dead. Then I decided to go up in a little creek and try our luck their but that did not work out either. The water was just not deep enough to get my skiff over. In fact we ended up spending some time looking at the bottom of a very shallow mud flat and wishing that we had enough water to fish in or even to move the boat. So we waited for the boat to start floating again and started on our way.
We finally started to fish at about noon and it must have been the perfect time because the bite was on. Big trout and some good slot sized reds were all bunched up in one of our little honey holes. And we went to work the first bite was a big trout then another then a small red and a larger one to follow. After about an hour of fish after fish action Doc decided that it was time to go back to Twin Rivers Marina and get some refreshments. We ended up having a great day totaling 5 big trout and five reds and a good sized black drum.
