To many fish to fit into one show

Report Date: October 17, 2007

The fishing in crystal river is still great and just getting better as the water starts to cool down .It doesn’t seem to matter witch way the water is flowing the fish still want to eat . This past Wednesday I had the pleasure of fishing with Florida Angler T.V. host Joe Espen and we had a great morning moving from spot to spot chasing reds..
We caught at least one red every where that we stopped. The tide was moving out at what seemed to be a slower pace than normal. But that gave us just the edge that we needed to fish in several different spots. Just after 10:00 A.M. Joe said that’s enough redfish footage to make a show .What’s next Bear . Can we get enough footage on trout to film another show all together. I replied you bet .
After the morning filled with reds we went down south past mullet key to find a little fuller tide but that was not the case . We stopped on a large flat and started to throw popping cork with about a 24” leader and a blurp shrimp on a 1/4 oz. jig head. We had some success with the trout when we first started but after the first twenty mins the fish just stopped eating. I think the water just got to low. So we moved to another spot that was back in the salt river area where the water was still moving out fairly hard from a big flat to another that had a deep spot where the water would break and form a small eddy . After finding this area I decided to take the cork of and just fish the jig on the bottom slowly. And sure enough the bite was on we caught a trout on almost every cast and not many of them were short the average fish was around 17” . It turned out to be a great day on the water. I mean the kind of day that you read about or see on T.V.
In closing the fish in this area seem to have moved to there winter time spots. They are holding up under deep ledges and in deep spots that the water is moving over waiting for the unsuspecting bait to wash by. Concentrate on areas like this and you will catch fish .
