spoiled by the spoil bamks

Report Date: September 14, 2007

The spoil banks of the cole barge canal for the crystal river power plant holds so many fish this time of year it's almost not any fun catching them. Who am I kidding it's an absolute blast you can catch every ting the are has to offer and almost never move your boat. I only fished one day this week but it was another great day on the water. Dr.Sam and I started out fishing for some dinner first thing monday mornihg and did well on the mangrove snapper. In just a short time we had eight or nine nice sized ones in the box. "Just enough for Sam,Jackie,Lindsay and my self to have for dinner". After that we moved out to the spoil banks and just like that the bite was on. Incoming tide, and choice baits caused the drag to scream for over an hour. We managed to realese seven or eight over sized reds one witch might have been my personal best at 36 inches "without pinching the tail" and weighed just under 20 lbs. Idon't usually go up north to fish because I like the back water but here latly I keep returnig to the old faithful spoil banks in crystal river you never know what your instore for out there. Big Trout,Mangrove snapper,Grouper,Cobia, and this time of year" THOSE GREAT BIG'OL RED FISH".Spend some time out there and you wont regret it. Remember dont keep them all so the rest of us can enjoy the future welth of this great region.
