The first day of snook season and her first snook
Report Date: September 1, 2007
Sept. first is the first day of snook season. This year the LAW has changed. Not only did the slot size of snook change form 27"-34" to 28"-33" but Kim Law of bellview Fl. caught her first snook and it was a DAMN GOOD fish.It was 32.5 inches and 9.12 lbs. I've known Kim for several years now and I've never seen her smile so Big. Kim also completed her first INSHORE SLAM with a 32.5 inch snook,20 inch redfish and a trout
OK on with what the fish are doing.well snook isn't somthing that we target here but they are showing up more and more. In the past few weeks. I've received seven or eight reports that folks are catching snook.
I'm Finding trout to be doing strang things latly. One day I'm getting them shallow the next I'm getting them deep. But,the days are getting shorter so they will more than likely keep continue to do stange things ultill the days start maintaining a consistant amount of day light. In shallow water I'm useing poping corks and gulp or slurp baits "2 to 6 feet of water".In the deeper water I'm puting pin fish on the bottom with just enough weight to make them strugle. Grassy bottom with sand spots will produce good fish.
Red fish are a given go to the spoil islands north of crystal river and use what ever you have faith in they are eating every thing. "The biger the bait the bigger the fish".But if you don't want to be part of the circus you can still find plenty of red fish around the outside islands from Yankee town to Chazawiskca be very quit and make long cast the fish are spooky or just stop and let the fish come to you either way you should do just fine.
It's geting cooler everyday so get out there and have some fun. but don't forget to leave some fish so I can make a living in the future!!!!!!
